A milestone in hard disk technology

You probably already know, but Hitachi have reached the 1TB milestone in hard disk drive technology. I just had to write about it.

It was only 5 or 6 years ago I was using my Pentium I 150MHz/16MB system with a 1.2GB Hard drive. Now storage has reached 1TB. Amazing. I can’t wait until new drives start coming out from all the manufacturers and prices start to drop and quality starts to increase. Hopefully not too far down the line we will have 5TB Hard disks. Not that I’d be able to store much on it.. but it’ll sure look nice looking at the usage statistics!

Five years from now you’ll read this on your machine with 80TB+ Storage and think I’m crazy. Maybe 20 years or so from now we’ll be breaking the PB barrier in a single device. By that time I don’t think we’ll be using hard disks though.
